University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Knife crime awareness statue: Planet Radio (online), RDG Today and Reading Borough Council report that a statue called The Armoured Heart was commissioned through a partnership with the University and will be unveiled in Reading today to mark knife crime awareness week. The statue has been created from blades handed in to local knife amnesty bins.

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment 

  • A grant secured by the University which will help decarbonise the Whitenights campus energy centre is reported by Wokingham Today, RDG Today, Energy Now, BSEE, and Air Quality News. Dan Fernbank (Energy and Sustainability Director) is quoted on the impact the project will have on the University and local area. Read our news story.
  • Matt White (Director of Campus Commerce) is quoted by Public Sector Catering on the carbon footprint of ingredients used by caterers.
  • Reading Borough Council reports that the art exhibit, the Gaia globe, will be exhibited in Reading following a collaboration between the University, Reading Borough Council, Reading Climate Change Partnership, and Reading BID. Read our news story.
  • RDG Today mentions a community liaison will meet to encourage discussion between the University, local residents, and council to improve Wokingham's infrastructure for sustainable travel.

Food and farming:

  • Matt Tebbit (Head of Catering and Bars) was interviewed by BBC Radio Berkshire, and quoted by Wokingham Today, on the University's upcoming drinks festival. 
  • Matt White (Director of Campus Commerce) is quoted by Public Sector Catering on how cooking from scratch can lower overall costs.  
  • RDG Today mentions the University's FoodSEqual project, which is exploring food systems in underserved communities in the UK.

Business and society:

  • Dr Gabor Thomas (Archaeology) was interviewed in an episode of BBC 2's Digging For Britain on the University's excavations of an eighth-century monastery in Cookham.
  • Young Up Starts mentions research conducted by Professor Moira Clark (Henley Business School) which demonstrates the power of work culture.
  • The Business Magazine reports on the University's partnership with Wokingham Borough Council to strengthen the local talent pool.

 #UniForReading: our role as a civic university  

  • Wokingham Today, RDG Today, and Opera News report on the University's first community festival, which took place last Saturday. Molli Cleaver (Community Relations Officer) and Professor Donal O’Sullivan (Agriculture) are quoted on its success.

  • Wokingham Today and RDG Today report on the verification process of purchasing Reading Buses' "Boost" tickets, mentioning they are available for University students, college students, and people under 18. 
  • The Tab reports that a new lager will be available at the University's Students' Union.
  • BBC Radio 6 Music mentions a Smiths gig that took place at the University in 1983. 

Alumni:

  • The Sun and Pro IQRA report on what TV meteorologist and Reading alumna Laura Tobin wore for the TV Bafta Awards.
  • Elektronik Fokus and Tek Deeps report on the appointment of Reading alumnus, Carsten Toft Boesen, as the president of the Academy of Technical Sciences.
  • Dram Scotland mentions that Iain McPherson, the owner of one of the world's top 100 cocktail bars, Panda and Sons, transferred his knowledge from a "Science of Ice-cream Course" at the University to the science of frozen cocktails.
  • Baroness' Book Trove writes about a novel written by Reading alumnus and author, Samantha Larsen.
